NB365: Sébastien Després And Heather Wright Of Bistro Le Moque-Tortue
This is part of a year-long ‘Love for Local’ series called NB365: portraits of New Brunswick entrepreneurs, businesses and organizations. Huddle is a media partner with Love for Local. Sébastien Després And Heather Wright Of Bistro Le Moque-Tortue in Shediac say their business is a family and community affair.
Doing business in New Brunswick is like serving pie in Wonderland: It’s best to share the pie before cutting it up. Instead of seeing each other as competitors, local businesses work together, bolster each other, share ideas, and help each other attract clients.
It’s awesome to be part of this large-scale community since it fosters a community-building mindset where we’re always inviting others to join the fun. We moved back to New Brunswick for our family, and we built our business around that fact. The decisions we make in relation to our Wonderland bistro are all focused on creating a great environment for our kids and our clients.
Le Moque-Tortue is a bright and positive space for everyone. Pre-Covid, balancing business and family was easy since they were one and the same. Our three daughters were always at work with us! This past year, it’s been very different, since we can no longer bring the children to the restaurant every day. So we essentially take turns going to work. They do enjoy doing “business things” with dad though – like doing the shopping for the bistro!
