Cannabis 2.0: Fish Farms, Infused Bath Bombs And The Future Of Retail
There have been bumps along the way for the cannabis industry in New Brunswick.
Cannabis NB lost money in its first year and was almost privatized. Homegrown companies like Organigram had ups and downs. But industry leaders say a sector that now employs 2,000 people is primed for growth.
Huddle “Home Office” host Leger wanted to know what the future looked like, so he had a chat with Brennan Sisk of the New Brunswick Cannabis Office and Tanner Stewart of Stewart Farms.
Tanner was happy to see Cannabis NB start to turn a profit again and remain in public hands, for now. He thinks that ultimately the private sector needs to take over retail for the industry to flourish in the province.
“Ultimately the industry has to be privatized – truly privatized and not a monopoly,” he told Mark. “[People in the province] need the option to open up a retail outlet and then buy from a Cannabis NB warehouse. What that will mean is dozens of more entrepreneurs, hundreds of more jobs and millions and millions of more dollars in tax revenue for New Brunswickers.”
Tanner is the founder of Stewart Farms, which makes cannabis-infused bath bombs and operates a fish farm. On the show, you’ll find out more about how those two businesses work together. You’ll also just enjoy a “rocking-chair-style” chat between two guys from the Miramichi and one from Saint John.
