Six Crew Members On Ship In Saint John Port Test Positive For Covid-19
SAINT JOHN – Six crew members of a ship anchored in Saint John have tested positive for Covid-19, according to the local port authority.
Port Saint John said Thursday the MV Mare Picenum is at anchor in the port’s designated anchorages in the outer harbour.
“One crew member is ashore and isolating in a designated hotel per public health protocols,” the port authority said in a Facebook post late Thursday afternoon.
Port Saint John noted that under current marine regulations, the crew can only leave the ship for “specific circumstances,” including medical reasons.
According to the port authority’s website, the vessel arrived in Saint John on March 16 and carries crude oil from foreign ports.
The crude oil tanker is currently sailing under the flag of Italy.
Public Health has reported six cases of Covid-19 in the Saint John health region (Zone 2) since Monday, including five on Thursday. All of those cases are listed as “travel-related” by health officials.
