Energia Ventures Opens Applications For First-Ever Spring Cohort
FREDERICTON – The UNB-based Energia Ventures accelerator program will welcome its fifth cohort from May 1 until July 20, the first-ever for the program that usually runs in the fall.
Energia Ventures welcomes applicants in the energy, smart grid, cleantech, and cybersecurity sectors to apply to their program. Past participants have included New Brunswick success stories Beauceron Security, Stash Energy, and Gray Wolf.
“Energia is looking to build on the success we’ve had with our first four cohorts by moving to a model where we offer the Energia programming twice per year,” Joe Allen, the Managing Director for Accelerators at the J. Herbert Smith Centre said in a release.
The 12-week program will be run online and provides participants with expert advice, intensive mentoring, educational programming, business support, and funding for their startups.
Successful applicants will be able to participate virtually from their home offices. The program is no cost to participants in exchange for an equity portion in their start-ups.
“With Covid-19, we faced the tough reality of offering the program virtually in our fall cohort, adapted the offering and worked with five great companies with smashing success,” said Allen. “We’re aiming to build on this momentum by working with twice as many companies this year for the first time, all while keeping the cohort dynamics the same as for high touch-points with each company.”
Energia Ventures grew out of UNB’s Technology Management and Entrepreneur program. Applications can be started through F6S. The deadline is March 7, 2021.
