N.B. Reports 26 New Covid-19 Cases Monday
FREDERICTON – Public Health reported 26 new cases of Covid-19 Monday, marking five consecutive days of more than 20 new cases being reported.
The breakdown by region of the new cases is as follows:
- Seven new cases in Zone 1 (Moncton)
- Nine in Zone 2 (Saint John)
- Seven in Zone 3 (Fredericton)
- Two in Zone 4 (Edmundston)
- One in Zone 6 (Bathurst)
There are now 304 active cases in the province, the highest number since the pandemic began.
One patient with the virus has been hospitalized, and 973 cases have been reported since the pandemic began.
Public Health has now administered more than 10,000 vaccinations, and 2,567 New Brunswickers have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
But Dr. Jennifer Russell says New Brunswickers still must take the necessary precautions.
“We have kept the avalanche of cases out of New Brunswick so far,” said the chief medical officer of health. “We must act now to keep this virus from doing even more damage than we are already seeing, especially with transmission now in workplaces. We cannot keep Covid-19 out completely, so we must do absolutely everything we can to prevent it from spreading within our province.”
The Edmundston region entered the red phase of pandemic recovery at midnight Sunday night after reporting 24 cases Sunday, the highest single-zone total since the pandemic began.
One new case of Covid-19 was reported at École Élémentaire Sacré-Coeur in Grand Falls. Under new red phase regulations, the school is required to close for three days to enable staff to be tested and contact tracing to be conducted.
The province also warned of several possible public COVID-19 exposures in Moncton.
Anyone who was at the Moncton North After Hours Medical Clinic on Mountain Road on January 14 between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. is asked to self-monitor for symptoms.
