New Spa Opening At The Lily Lake Pavilion In Saint John
SAINT JOHN — After a stressful year like 2020, the owners of a new spa opening at the Lily Lake Pavilion in Saint John hope their new business will bring some much-needed relaxation.
Slated to open in February, At The Lake Spa & Studio will offer a range of spa and aesthetic services. The business will be owned and operated by Courtenay Blizzard and Andrea Cyr.
“I have been at this gig for about 17 years. It’s always been a dream of mine to have a spa of my own. What really keeps me going is the people … they make me love what I do,” says Blizzard.
“It’s all about the real friendships that I have created throughout the years and the connections. It’s all about the customer service and that’s what we’re going to provide here At The Lake.”
Cyr is newer to the field. After Covid-19 left her out of work she decided to go to school to become a nail technician at the Majestany Institute in Saint John.
“The program was finishing up and I was looking for a place to hang my shingle, and I stopped in to see Courtenay on the recommendation of a mutual friend. We instantly hit it off,” says Cyr. “She has this great idea. We have very different backgrounds, so we bring really different things to the table which is something that really makes it interesting.”
Before the pandemic Cyr worked in sales for a tourism organization and has previously worked in hospitality and marketing, skills she says will complement Blizzard’s.
“My mom says the only things I haven’t done so far is brain surgery and hearing confessions,” says Cyr. “But I have a broad network and a really wide background. With the two backgrounds together I think we’re really going to create something awesome.”
At The Lake will offer nail services like manicures and pedicures, gel nails. It will also offer facials, body waxing, and eyelash extensions. They also plan to introduce some dermaplaning services in the spring and summer.
Besides offering a scenic location at Lily Lake, Cyr and Blizzard say their spa will offer clients a personable experience.
“We’re a smaller concept spa, so I think with Andrea and myself having bigger personalities, you’ll get to know us quite well,” says Blizzard. “I think people like that, and the fact that we’re licensed as well, we can bring a different feel where someone can come and feel comfortable and really relaxed and unwind.”
“Getting to know your practitioner is really important,” adds Cyr. “Clients will get to know us and have the opportunity to be served by the same practitioner when they come back.”
They also plan on working with other businesses in the Lily Lake Pavillion, like Lilly’s Cafe and the Inside Out Nature Centre to offer different packages and cross-promote each other.
“We’re going to be offering packages and programs in conjunction with those two businesses so we can offer a little bit more to our guests,” says Cyr.
Covid-19 has made 2020 a tough year for everyone, especially those in the spa and salon industries. But that’s why Cyr and Blizzard say the services they offer are needed more than ever.
“We thought this would actually be a great time to open because people need a break,” says Cyr.
“People are focusing more on themselves,” adds Blizzard. “Self-care is key right now.”
The spa is currently undergoing renovations as is expected to be open on February 2.
