Centennial Building Redevelopment Approved By Planning Committee
FREDERICTON – Fredericton’s Planning Advisory Committee has approved an application submitted by Centennial Heritage Properties Inc.
The project still needs to be approved by council before moving forward.
Plans for the redeveloped space include an 87-room hotel, residential units, a restaurant, retail space, and an added penthouse to the top of the building.
Redevelopment of the Centennial Building has been a longstanding issue in Fredericton. In 2017, the Liberal government sought to convert the building into a courthouse, but the project was canceled in 2018 after the new Progressive Conservative government took power.
The building was purchased by Centennial Heritage Properties Inc. for $4-million in December 2019.

The Centennial Building opened in 1967 and was intended to house civil servants. By 2015, the building was two thirds empty after the province moved many offices into Chancery Place.
