Trauma NB Encourages All New Brunswickers To Talk About Falls
This fall, let’s talk falls.
Every day in New Brunswick, eight senior citizens are admitted to a hospital because of fall-related injuries. The average length of the hospital stay for those suffering from fall-related injuries is 23 days. Every year, preventable injuries cost our healthcare system $400-million. And every year, 400 New Brunswickers are killed by injuries, including those caused by falls.
Working closely with Horizon Health Network, Réseau de santé Vitalité, Ambulance NB, and the New Brunswick Department of Health, Trauma NB works tirelessly to reduce the number of preventable injuries in our province and offers research-based solutions for coordinated trauma care for all New Brunswickers.
The organization is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a renewed energy to accomplish its mission; reducing the number of preventable injuries in the province while also offering resources and guidance for coordinated trauma care throughout New Brunswick.
This fall, Trauma NB wants us to all talk about falls. Being the leading cause of injury-related hospitalizations among senior citizens, the topic is still a delicate one because it is so intertwined in many people’s perception of their independence.
The Fall Talk campaign aims to change the conversation about falls for two distinct yet closely related audiences. First, it offers senior citizens a plethora of resources on the prevention of falls as well as other safety measures to keep in mind. After all, it is quite natural to get older, but it is not normal to fall. The campaign also highlights the benefits of talking about falls with our loved ones. Encouraging conversation first and foremost, the campaign aims to inform people about fall prevention in a healthy and constructive way.
Fall Talk promises to change the statistics and positively impact New Brunswickers of all ages. From the psychology behind prevention and its role in our sense of independence to conversational tools and resources for everyone, Trauma NB has put everything in place for New Brunswickers to enjoy their lives in the safest possible way.
