Moncton Young Professionals Group Launch Buy Local Initiative
MONCTON – Hub City Young Professionals Network (HCYPN) has launched a contest to encourage people to buy from young, local entrepreneurs this holiday season.
“Knowing that it’s a little tougher this year because of the pandemic, it’s a little rougher for small businesses, we wanted to kind of shine a light on the awesome businesses we have in the region,” says HCYPN founded Patrick Richard. “Being the Hub City Young Professionals Network, we always have a young professional or young entrepreneur lens.”
The ByYoungBuyLocal contest started in early November and runs through January 2. A winner will be announced two days after that.
Because of the pandemic, the contest will be virtual and based on social media engagement.
Participants can take a photo with a product they purchased or at one of the businesses they visited, and post it on their Instagram feed or stories. They’d need to tag the business and HCYPN to be counted.
If people buy a product of a participating business at another participating location, especially for the companies without a physical location of their won, they can tag both companies, and it would count as two checks.
The winner will be the person who has checked off the most number of participating businesses.
If there is more than one person that has done so, they’ll be entered into a draw. The grand prize is a package of products and services from the 20nlocal businesses that are taking part.
Richard said the HCYPN team of board directors and committee members relied on their networks to pick the businesses.
“It’s a big push for us to support local and support our young entrepreneurs, but it’s a great way to meet these people too because most of them are owner-operators. So they’re usually in their business,” he said.
The participating businesses include:
- Tire Shack Brewing Co.
- Lost and Found Ice Cream
- Halo Donuts
- Sequoia Downtown
- Spinco Moncton
- Boutique Caprice
- Klozet Clothing Boutique
- Sandy Toes Shop
- Doughlicious.inc
- Koffee Beauty
- Cafe L’Amiral
- Belle by Joelle
- Valk Fermentation
- Lavender Lane Esthetics
- The Green Pig Country Market
- Eclair Lips
- Mon Pré
- Barakat African Cuisine
- MacArthur’s Nurseries Inc.
- Working Class Menswear & Skateboard Shop
HCYPN usually hosts networking events and co-hosts the annual Top 20 Under 40 award night with the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Moncton, but the pandemic has forced it to move events and initiatives online.
