Restaurateurs Susan And Gene Cormier Named Moncton’s ‘Business Person Of The Year’
MONCTON – Husband-and-wife restaurateur duo, Susan and Gene Cormier, were named the inaugural Business Person of The Year at the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Moncton’s 35th annual Business Excellence Awards Thursday night.
Within less than two years, the Cormiers have opened beer garden Euston Park Social in downtown Moncton and on Parlee Beach in Shediac, and casual fine-dining restaurant Clos. They opened Halo Donuts this year, despite challenges Covid-19 brings to the business community.
The choice was made by the chamber’s board.
“This award aims to recognize the true entrepreneur in our community,” said CEO John Wishart in a release. “This business person demonstrates not only leadership, but vision and a sense of giving back to the community.”
The chamber also honoured 11 businesses for various awards, chosen from a list of 60 nominees by an independent judging panel representing a cross-section of the business community, and via a public vote online for the People’s Choice Award.
The winners were announced in an virtual event that incorporates both live and filmed parts.
Wishart said in such a challenging year for business, the chamber wants to celebrate the business community’s resilience.
“Winners and finalists have demonstrated they can lead and adjust facing tough times. Tonight was about celebrating both the endurance and courage of not only our winners but also of our entire business community,” he said in the release.
