WestJet Passengers Who Don’t Wear Masks Face Year-Long Ban
MONCTON – Tougher penalties are coming for air travellers who don’t wear masks.
Transport Canada has required masks on all flights in the country since April, but WestJet is now implementing a “zero-tolerance” policy and will turn passengers away for up to a year if they don’t comply.
That airline will ask you a few times as part of the boarding process, but if you still don’t put on a mask, you will be required to leave the plane and will be banned. The zero-tolerance policy also applies to WestJet Encore, WestJet Link, and Swoop.
“Canadian travellers and all of our WestJet Group employees are counting on us to keep them safe and it is our utmost priority to do so,” said Ed Sims, The WestJet Group President and CEO, in a release.
“Masks are mandated by our regulator and the vast majority of our guests are happy to keep themselves and each other safe by complying. This enhanced policy provides clarity on how we will enforce the regulation for those who don’t. Travellers must understand if they choose to not wear a mask, they are choosing not to fly our airlines.”
The WestJet Group also announced all passengers will be required to give their contact information at online and kiosk check-in.
The new rules take effect on September 1.
