Here’s Where You Can Save Up To 15 Percent On Your Alcohol, Every Day
SALISBURY – Located right across from the Big Stop, the Alcool NB Liquor (ANBL) Depot in Salisbury is not your typical liquor store. It’s more like a big box store, but for alcoholic beverages.
“It’s nothing like you would see anywhere in Atlantic Canada. It’s a very warehouse style store, with racking and pallet drops on the floor,” says manager Cheryl Black. “We’re more like a destination.”
The Depot is unique in New Brunswick and Atlantic Canada because it offers exclusive products, and lower prices for purchases in large volumes every day.
A purchase of three-to-five units of items will get you a 3 percent saving, six-to-11 items will get you 10 percent, and 12 or more items will help you save 15 percent.
The deals apply to all products except beer, and customers can mix-and-match them.
“You wouldn’t have to buy 12 bottles of vodka if you wanted to get the discount. You can buy a bottle of vodka, some wine, some coolers,” Black explains.
Customers can still buy one-off products like in regular ANBL stores, though the price would be the same. It’s the volume purchase that would get them savings. And unlike other locations where deals are usually available for specific products for a limited time, the percentage buy program is available all the time at the Depot.
The store was first opened in 2009 but was revamped in 2017. Today, with retail space of approximately 12,000 square feet, the Depot carries approximately 700 different wines, 100 types of spirits, and up to 100 types of ready-to-drink products. It also has a beer section.
The Depot’s exclusive products also makes it the place to go for exciting, rare drinks.
It’s the only place in Canada that sells small-town Italian wine Serragrilli, for example. It’s also the only liquor store in the province to carry products like Windsor Whiskey, Shiver Vodka, and organic Spanish wine Toro Loco.
While there are staple products that customers can always find in the store, the specialty product roster changes quite often, Black says.
“It’s kind of like a treasure hunt. You never know from month to month what we’re going to get. When our buyers find something exciting, we bring it in,” she said.
“So when you see a really good deal, you want to take advantage of it.”
With health measures implemented to help mitigate the spread of Covid-19, customers can feel safe shopping there, Black says.
As an organization, ANBL has taken “extraordinary precautions” across all its stores, she said.
At the Depot, while masks are not required, staff conducts deep cleaning and sanitizing every hour. The floors are marked with arrows to help customers and staff maintain physical distance. There’s a plexiglass barrier for cashiers, and only 20 people are allowed in the store at once.
Inside, staff are on standby to help customers.
“We have a great team here that can help you through the store and help you with your purchases,” Black says.
The depot is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
