The Tipsy Tomato Takes Over Subway Space In Millidgeville
SAINT JOHN – For some businesses, the pandemic represents a period of change and growth.
That’s the case for the Tipsy Tomato in Millidgeville which will take over space formerly occupied by Subway at 473 Millidge Avenue in Saint John.
Owner Steve Walton said renovations have been underway for the last month.
“We’re pretty excited here,” he said.
Since opening last fall, he was looking for more space in their strip mall location.
“Even though we’re small it was enough to get something started. That first month we opened, it was really crazy. During that opening week, we turned away at least 200 people,” Walton said.
The renovation will add a lot more seating inside and out.
“We should be able to accommodate 80 to 100 [people] during the COVID regulations. Of course, we are looking forward to that being all over with like everybody else and we should be able to accommodate 180 [people],” Walton said.
The renovations include a new patio that should open this week while the new interior space should be ready in three weeks or less.
The Tipsy Tomato draws a mix of clientele who are walking and driving.
Walton said so many cyclists are coming in, he plans to add a bike rack.
