Podcast: A Kitchen Conversation With Jesse Vergen And Doug Townsend
On this episode of Home Office, Huddle Editor Mark Leger chats with Jesse Vergen of the Saint John Alehouse and Doug Townsend of The Canteen in Dartmouth about the Maritime restaurant scene. Both places feature former Food Network Top Chef Canada competitors with loyal customer bases in downtown areas with vibrant restaurant scenes.
Jesse and Doug talk about their lives at home with their families and how the Covid-19 crisis has impacted their restaurants and employees. Jesse lives on a scenic property outside the city, where he and his wife grow vegetables and raise chickens. Doug lives in downtown Dartmouth close to his neighbourhood customers and natural amenities like lakes and trails.
We also introduce listeners to Huddle Halifax reporter Trevor Nichols, who lives close to The Canteen, one of his favourite neighbourhood restaurants. Trevor and Mark trade stories about their favourite take-out food during Covid-19 and their shared love of cats.
Huddle’s new Home Office podcast features conversations with New Brunswick and Nova Scotia community leaders and entrepreneurs – from their homes during the Covid-19 crisis – about the issues and events that accelerate and enrich the growth of the region’s economy and culture.
