New Case Of Covid-19 In New Brunswick
FREDERICTON – New Brunswick’s chief medical officer of health announced one new case of COVID-19 on Tuesday, the first since April 18.
Dr. Jennifer Russell said the new case is an individual in their 30s who lives in the Fredericton area.
Russell said the source of the transmission is still being investigated by health officials.
“Finding a new case is not a failure on anyone’s part. It means that our surveillance system is working and it is a sign of success. New cases will appear, and when they do, we will take aggressive steps to isolate them and track down those that they have been in contact with,” said Russell.
Russell said the emergence of a new case was expected, given the prevalence of the virus in neighbouring provinces and states.
On Monday, the province said it received word that a person confirmed to have COVID-19 was a passenger on WestJet flight 3456 to Moncton on April 27.
Russell said the person was not tested in New Brunswick and the case is separate from the new one announced Tuesday.
She urged New Brunswickers to continue practicing physical distancing, wear a community face mask and maintain good hygiene.
Russell also said anyone with at least two symptoms associated with COVID-19 should call 811 to get tested.
“The best measure of success is not an absence of new cases but how effectively we respond when new cases emerge. The only way we can find new cases is for as many New Case Of COVID-19 In N.B.as possible to get tested,” she said
