Trudeau Announces $17 Million For Youth Employment Initiatives In Halifax
HALIFAX — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was in Halifax today to announce significant funding for youth employment initiatives across Canada.
Speaking to a small crowd at Common Good Solutions, Trudeau said the federal government will give approximately $492 million to organizations across the country for “youth skills and employment programs”
He said the money will be given to programs doing everything from helping newcomers learn language skills to finding young people job placements.
“This isn’t just about young people. If they can’t find good jobs it’s not them who miss out, it’s our entire economy,” Trudeau said. “Our future comes down to the next generation, and to harness that potential we need to make sure people have the training to turn their talent into careers and turn their ideas into results.”
Of the nearly $500 million the federal government is handing out, Trudeau said about $17 million will be given to organizations in Nova Scotia.
Common Good Solutions, he said, will be one of those organizations, receiving about $1 million to “help them do more of what they’ve been doing an incredibly good job at already with very limited resources.”
Common Good Solutions is a community organization in Halifax that offers training, consulting, and incubation for local not-for-profits and social enterprises.
Trudeau also said some of the funding will be given to Phoenix Youth Programs and the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre will also be getting some of the funding.
