Channel Your Inner James Bond Or Millennial At N.B.’s New ‘Glamp Camp’
New Brunswickers and tourists alike now have a new place to camp in style with the opening of a new “glamping” campground on Grand Lake.
“Glamping” is a form of camping that offers more luxurious accommodations and amenities while still getting enjoying the outdoors. This is exactly the experience that Glamp Camp wants to offer its guests.
Located in Waterborough on Grand Lake on a 90-acre property, Glamp Camp has 10 camping “domes” of different themes guests can rent all year round.
Glamp Camp was started by Shekhar Dhayagude and his business partner Vijay Goswami. Dhyagude and his wife owned the property and were looking at the best way to utilize it. The plan was to build some sort of cabin and they soon found the option of geometric camping domes.
“That slowly turned into, ‘why not turn it into a business?’ Why not buy another piece of property that is wooded and put a road through it, put some domes in there and rent them out? It’s something unique and nice and people would love it,” says Dhayagude.
“A lot of people I know like going camping, but they don’t like the drawbacks, like not having a proper washroom or things like that.”
Starting at $180 per night, dome themes include “#Millennial” which features soft pastel shades with a modern feel; “Log Cabin” which has more rustic decor; “1969” that serves up retro vibes, and “007” which features sleek black and gold hues that channel your inner James Bond. The other themes are “Canadiana”, “Treehouse”, “Love Wins”, “I’m So Fancy.”
Inside the “007” Glamp Camp dome:
All domes feature a bathroom with shower, kitchenette, and a queen size bed with fine linens, cozy blankets. Toiletries, plush towels, bathrobes are also provided. The domes all feature a barbeque and an outdoor wood-fired hot tub.
“It’s a home away from home, but it’s a home away from home in the woods. You don’t miss the things you have at home like a kitchen, a bathroom, and a nice bedroom,” says Dhayagude. “It’s a relaxing place, you can just unwind. You’re away from all your day-to-day faxing and texting and the hustle and bustle of a city. It’s nice and quiet and you’re one with nature. It’s just peaceful.”
Glam Camp is open-all-year-round and started taking online bookings last week.
Dhayagude says in the summer they will offer kayak and bicycle rentals. They also plan to create trails around the property for guests.
“It’s a 90-acre property and it’s completely wooded, so at the back, we would like to make some snowshoe trails and or some walking trails,” he says. “All of that will be happening next summer.”
