Courtney Pringle-Carver Of Moncton Wins Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 Award
MONCTON – Courtney Pringle-Carver, the vice president for external affairs at Atlantic Lottery Corporation, is one of two Atlantic Canadian recipients of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 award, which celebrates top up-and-coming leaders in the country under the age of 40.
Ian Sutherland, the dean of the school of music at Memorial University in Newfoundland, is also a recipient.
“It’s truly an honour to be recognized by this organization and it feels like a privilege to be able to represent Atlantic Canada on this national platform,” said Pringle-Carver in an interview. “I’m very flattered and honoured to be on this list. There are many more people in this region who could also be on this list.”
Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 is an organization founded by executive talent provider Caldwell in 1995. This year, Caldwell will present the award alongside presenting partner MNP, an accounting firm, and other sponsors.
This year’s winners come from various sectors, including technology, healthcare, philanthropy, banking and energy. They were put on a shortlist by Caldwell and then selected by an independent advisory board made up of 25 respected and experienced individuals from across the country. Caldwell had received 950 nominations for this year’s awards.
“On behalf of our advisory board and sponsors, I offer my heartfelt congratulations to the 2019 honourees,” said Elan Pratzer, managing partner at Caldwell, in a release. “The achievements of these individuals are vital to our continuing vision of Canada as a vibrant country replete with ambition, innovation and realized potential. Canada is a place where hard work and determination are appreciated, rewarded and now celebrated. I also thank our program partners for their commitment and dedication to this important initiative.”
For Pringle-Carver, who is also a mother of one, the award exemplifies the possibilities that Atlantic Canadians and New Brunswickers can achieve.
“One of the things that’s most important to me as part of this is simply demonstrating to other people from Atlantic Canada what they can accomplish, what’s possible,” said the Moncton born-and-raised woman.
I lived outside of the region for a few years but moved back in my early 20s and built a successful career here. I surrounded myself with people who are remarkably talented. That’s a huge part of getting anything accomplished. If I can accomplish this, then anyone can.”
Pringle-Carver has balanced her 11-year career at $1.2-billion corporation Atlantic Lottery with community service and education. She started at the company as a corporate spokesperson and has made her way up to VP of external affairs, a position she’s held since last April.
She had also run for provincial office, served on various charitable boards, chaired fundraising galas for the Canadian Cancer Society that raised over $200,000, and is a past member of the Order of New Brunswick Advisory Council.
In the meantime, she completed programs with the Schools of Public Health and Law at Harvard University and is currently finishing a Master of Public Administration at Dalhousie University. She was also a recipient of the Canada 150 award and named a YWCA Woman of Distinction in 2018.
Pringle-Carver said building and maintaining good relationships are key to her success.
“The most important thing to me throughout my career has been developing exceptionally trusting relationships with my colleagues, partners in the community. I work with the [different levels of] governments, so very trusting and collaborative relationships with those people as well,” she said.
“It’s my view that it’s having cultivated those relationships, being reliable, being always the most prepared person in the room to the full extent that you can be and having a strong work ethic are the things that will help ensure your success.”
The honourees will be highlighted in various ways by Canada’s Top 40 Under 40’s media partners. They’ll be highlighted in the National Post, profiled in a feature article in the October edition of FP Magazine, and featured in a series called Canada’s Next Leaders on BNN Bloomberg.
The 40 recipients will receive their awards at a gala in Toronto November 6.
