8 New Things To Check Out At The Garrison Night Market This Year
FREDERICTON – A little drizzle didn’t stop the Garrison Night Market from starting up again last Thursday. And it didn’t faze Huddle either as we dropped by to see what new things were on offer after a successful first year in operation for the market.
The market will feature up to 150 booths each week from now until September 5. It includes local and imported handmade products, arts and crafts, clothing, locally grown products, a tasting room, food, and live entertainment that changes each week.
Here is a list of nine new things to check out at the market this year.
1. Affirmation Lounge
Tianna Colpitts’ business offers herbal “mocktails” and concentrated herbal shots, nice mixtures, coffees, hot chocolate, and homemade coconut creamer. Everything she offers is vegan. During the week, you can visit the lounge downtown on Mazzuca’s Lane, the “Herbal Mocktail bar with a healthy alternative twist to alcohol.”
2. Saba’s Ice Creams and Paletas
Saba Morales makes artisanal ice-cream and paletas (ice pops) at her home in Fredericton. She says what makes her ice-cream special is that you cannot find the flavours she offers in stores, like jalapeño-watermelon.
3. Tiffany’s Tipsy Treats
Sandra Hom makes boozy preserves. Her products include BBQ sauces, ketchups, pancake sauces, ice-cream sauces, jams, jellies, and condiments “with a little bit of a flare.” She started her business a year and a half ago after her dog Tiffany passed away. She was drinking a little more than she usually does and started making things with berries and alcohol mixed together. Her girlfriend told her she should start selling what she made and she did. She uses local New Brunswick products in what she makes.
4. Chunky’s Burritos
Tamao Itasaka and Carlos Lamadrid usually sell Spanish food with a Mexican Twist at Fredericton’s Northside Market. Last year they couldn’t make it to the market because they had just sold their food truck, but this year they will be selling burritos every Thursday evening.
5. Handmade by Alicia
Alicia Sharp specializes in artisan haircare and all natural skincare. She started her business when her oldest son was a baby and she couldn’t find products she was comfortable using on him. She started developing baby products and shifted into hair and skincare. Her products include shampoo and conditioner bars. She is based out of Nackawic.
6. Fawn Maple
Alexandria and Shane Walton make wood signs from scratch and paint on them. They also put precision grooves on the back of the signs to ensure they won’t fall off the wall, which is something most people don’t do, they say. They make custom orders as well. They are based out of Nashwaak Bridge.
7. Beta Creations
Mary Betancourt does custom, nursery, home decorations and wood signs. Everything is hand painted and she mixes the colours herself. She is based out of Fredericton and does business through her Facebook and Instagram pages, and market sales. She says hand painting is all about supporting locals.
8. Turnings by Thomas
Thomas Harding and Cristina Sivitilli make wood bowls, cutting boards, and bookmarks. Making bowls has always been Harding’s hobby. Now, he has been making them for four years. Their business is based out of Fredericton.
The Garrison Night Market takes place each Thursday from 4:30 to 9 p.m. at Carleton Street until Sep. 5.
