Popular Vietnamese Restaurant Is Closing In Downtown Fredericton
FREDERICTON – There are lots of great new places to eat and drink in downtown Fredericton. But this week the area is losing two of most its popular places – one a longtime gathering spot to drink coffee and catch up on the news, the other a two-year-old Vietnamese restaurant that had become a favourite in a short period of time.
On Wednesday, Huddle reported that Read’s Newsstand & Cafe is closing at the end of the month.
One street over, the popular Vietnamese restaurant Damda is also closing at the end of June, according to its Facebook page.
“It saddens us to inform you that Damda Restaurant will be closing soon due to [a shortage of labour]. Thank you for a fantastic two years. It was our privilege to be a part of this community, we greatly appreciate your support and [giving] us the chance to serve you! We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Please come and visit us, our last day will be [June 30th]. If you have gift cards … please come and use them. Thank you again.”
As was the case with Read’s, the expressions of support and disappointment began immediately on the page. Here’s a sampling of the thoughts people shared:
“So VERY sorry to hear. We were just there! Our fav place to eat!”
“I’m so sorry to hear this, this was one of my two favorite go-to restaurants! Guess I’ll see you this week and bulk up!”
“If your closing I need the recipe for the pad thai because I have never found one so delicious anywhere else. I’m not joking. I need that recipe lol. Not even in Toronto.”
“NOOOO! I need your red curry in my life!!!”
“Whaaaat!? No way!! It was a privilege to have the opportunity to help open and work there. I can’t believe it’s going to be over already! In Peru currently but I’ll definitely have to make it in as soon as I get back to NB. What sad news.”
Huddle reached out to the owner by phone, but our call hadn’t yet been returned when this story was published.
