Applications Open for 2017 Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge
MONCTON – The Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge (YEC) is currently accepting applications for its 12th yearly challenge now through April 21.
Marketed as the only fully bilingual province-wide competition rewarding youth (K-35) for their entrepreneurial spirit, the event is designed to showcase and reward young people who are creative and innovative and who demonstrate leadership, entrepreneurial thinking and change in their communities.
The challenge consists of several award categories including Little Leaders, Idea Architects, Summer Venture and Idea Catalyst. YEC partner Brilliant Labs will offer additional prizes for applications involving technology solutions.
“I like to think of ideas as our super power,” YEC director Sarah Short said in a release. “Ideas are how we’re going to change the world and our youth. They know that. If there’s anyone determined to change the world, to grow our communities and to strengthen our province, it’s them.”
YEC organizers explain that younger entrepreneurs can submit applications for the challenge through the school system while older applications often apply on their own.
Applications will showcase their initiatives at several regional events between May 4 and May 11. Winners from around the province will come together June 1 in Moncton to celebrate at a gala showcasing their ideas.
“The most important trait for entrepreneurs, in my opinion, really boils down to curiosity,” Short said. “If you’re looking for an answer to something or a solution, then you’re naturally going to be adaptable. You’re naturally going to be coachable. You’re naturally going to lead.”
