FCNB Launches Awareness Campaign for Fraud Prevention Month
In line with March being Fraud Prevention Month in Canada, the Financial and Consumer Services Commission (FCNB) is launching a frauds and scams contest through its online trivia game “Fortune.”
“This game is intended to raise awareness of how to protect yourself from fraud and scams, said FCNB senior education coordinator Marissa Sollows in a release. “The more you play, the more you’ll learn and as a bonus, you increase your chances of winning one of three prizes. This is a win-win situation.”
Throughout the rest of March, FCNB will be sharing tools, resources and messages to help new Brunswickers recognize fraud warning signs and protect themselves.
FCNB says that being a target of fraud can be devastating both to a victim’s finances and to their health and that losing money due to fraud can result in decreased participation in social events and even job loss.
“Our programs are helping to make New Brunswickers more aware of fraudsters but, sadly, there are still con artists looking to cheat innocent people out of their hard-earned savings,” Sollows said. “It is important to realize the role that financial health plays in our overall wellbeing.”
