Five Podcasts You Need To Listen To
You’re probably going to have some downtime during the holidays.
So way not spend some of it listening to great stories and maybe even learn a thing or two to improve your business, maybe even your life.
Here’s what we’ve been listening to.
The Growth Show
HubSpot is a platform that helps make inbound marketing effective and easy for your business. Naturally, they created a podcast that aims to be just as useful. The Growth Show is a podcast for business leaders who are focused on growth, whether it be growing a company, movement, idea or team. Each week, HubSpot sits down with someone who’s achieved impressive growth and unpacks how they did it. A must listen for those who want to listen to something both interesting and useful.
Crime Writers On . . . Serial
If you haven’t listened to Serial yet…there’s no hope for you.
But if you have, you’re likely aware of all the “companion” podcasts that have spawned from it. This is probably the best one. It’s hosted by true-crime writers (and husband/wife duo) Rebecca Lavoie and Kevin Flynn and features fellow crime writers Toby Ball, Lara Bricker, and occasional surprise guests. The group discusses each week’s episode from the perspective of professionals who work in the genre. They also talk about writing, crime, journalism and pop culture. They are an entertaining bunch. Give it a listen.
Reply All
Reply All is a show about the internet hosted by internet junkies (and BFFs) Alex Goldman and PJ Vogt. They tell stories about how people shape the internet, and the internet shapes people. We think it’s hands-down one of the best storytelling podcasts out there. Seriously.
You may find yourself binge-listening to it.
Criminal
Like Reply All, you’ll likely find yourself binge-listening to Criminal. Criminal tells the stories of people who’ve done wrong, been wronged, or gotten caught somewhere in the middle. It’s
captivating, and host Phoebe Judge’s voice is just worth it alone. We could listen to her read a phone book.
Startup
We’ve fan-girled over Startup before , but we we’re going to do it again. The first season of Startup followed the formation of Gimlet Media (Yes, a podcast about starting a podcast company). In season two, Startup follows the triumphs and challenges of matchmaking service Dating Ring. In its recently launched mini-season, they check back with how things are going at Gimlet. This podcast is a must-listen to those who are even mildly interested in what it’s really like to start a business. It’s also a must-listen to anyone who enjoys good storytelling.
