New Brunswick Minimum Wage to Increase in the New Year
FREDERICTON – On Monday, Premier Brian Gallant announced that New Brunswick minimum wage will increase on April 1st, 2016 from $10.30 per hour to $10.65.
An agreement made in recent months between New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and PEI to align minimum wage increases resulted in the tabling of the Regulatory Accountability and Reporting Act last week in the legislative assembly.
Gallant explained in a release that the cooperation between Maritime provinces on this issue will result in job creation and the delivery of better services.
“Increasing the minimum wage will put more money in the pockets of New Brunswickers and have a positive effect on the economy,” Gallant said. “Aligning the timing of the minimum wage increases will reduce costs for businesses operating in more than one province by minimizing the number of time they have to make administrative changes.”
The revised schedule is also being supported by Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Francine Landry.
“An increase in minimum wage will provide support to those most in need,” Landry said in a release. “It will also lead to strengthening and stimulating the economy, which will benefit small businesses in all regions of the province.”
