5 Great Things That Aren’t In Huddle
The important, weirdest and wackiest stuff on the web in this week’s instalment of five great things that aren’t in Huddle.
1) In a few decades, when the few surviving humans huddled in their caves look back to see when it all went wrong, they may point to this week’s announcement that big time tech CEOs like Elon Musk, Peter Thiel and Reid Hoffman are pumping billions into Artificial Intelligence research. Skynet is coming.
2) Looking to stock up on reading material for the holidays, or maybe picking up a few books to give as gifts? Check out these recommendations from tech titan, billionaire and philanthropist Bill Gates. He probably knows what he’s doing.
3) Who doesn’t love the Wu Tang Clan? The legendary rap group created just a single copy of its new album and auctioned it off. With no digital versions, the owner would be the only person able to listen to the music. “The 31-track album would come in a hand-carved box, and include by a leather-bound book with 174 pages of parchment paper filled with lyrics and background on the songs.” And of course, Martin Shkreli, the most hated man on the Internet of late, bought the album. Then it got even weirder, with an Internet rumor spreading that the contract stipulated that any member of the Clan, and legendary comedian and eccentric Bill Murray, could legally attempt to steal the album once per year.
4) When Prime Minister Trudeau greeted Syrian refugees at the airport, the whole world took notice. The global media is clearly smitten with Canada’s new PM, with GQ magazine calling him, memorably, a “sparklepile of progressive sunshine.”
5) Live TV is hard. And because it’s never not funny, here are the best local news bloopers of the year. Watch closely, and you’ll see an appearance by CTV Atlantic.
