Saint John’s Thandi Restaurant Taking It Up Another Design Notch
SAINT JOHN – One of Saint John’s coolest looking restaurants is about to look, well, even cooler.
Ten years after its opening, Thandi Restaurant will undergo a makeover of its main floor with the help of Saint John interior design firm Punch Inside, run by Saint John design guru Judith Mackin.
Beginning at midnight on Nov 7, the restaurant will be closed for a five-day renovation.
“Saint John has evolved over the last eight years” said Holly Singh, one of Thandi’s owners. ”It’s a more inclusive, multi-cultural community. We see it in our restaurant daily. And, we felt it was time to see those changes reflected in a progressive design and to reflect modern day India, not a North American interpretation of that.”
This will not be the first time Thandi has worked with Punch Inside. Owners Holly and Ken Singh updated the restaurant’s bar around two years ago. Also, just over a year ago Mackin and Singh collaborated on the new design for House of Chan in the Kennebecasis Valley.
For this project, Mackin will be grabbing inspiration from photographs taken by local Saint John photographer Mark Hemmings during his extensive travels to India.
“I knew that Mark would capture India in a way that is authentic,” Mackin said.
The restaurant will open again Thursday, Nov 12. at 5:00 p.m. for the “big reveal.”
