NB Power Will Try Again To Blow Up Dalhousie Power Plant
Fredericton-NB Power hopes the second time is the charm as it will try once again to demolish buildings at its now shuttered generating station in Dalhousie later this month.
In August, the attempt to collapse the Flue-Gas Desulfurization stack and the Unit 2 Boiler failed as the buildings “did not react as anticipated to the blast” said NB Power in a statement.
Surveys and evaluations by third-party engineers confirmed the stack has not moved since the blast. NB Power says the stack has structurally stabilized and is not in any immediate danger of collapsing.
Residents of about 12 houses in the blast zone have returned home safely. The water line servicing the Town of Dalhousie was not damaged during the blast and has been returned to service.
NB Power and Delsan AIM will provide an update on the next phase of demolition as soon as the planning is complete. The demolition is anticipated to occur within the next few weeks.
