With “See Stories” Uber5000 Left His Mark on Saint John
SAINT JOHN – Uber5000 (aka. Allan Ryan) shares an accelerated video documenting the process of creating the funky, colourful under-the-Fundy-Bay mural, a project partnership between Historica and Discover Saint John, adorning Parrtown Place on Grannan Street.
Figuring out what he wanted to get done every day for the mural (which he’s named, “See Stories”) was a challenge, but Ryan was both inspired and relaxed walking around uptown and enjoying the city.
“Saint John is a lot more relaxed than what I’m used to. It was nice to be in an environment where everybody was just more concerned about you enjoying your time here and trying to make the most of it,” says Ryan.
Ryan established his regular haunts in Saint John, getting his caffeine fix from Rogue Coffee, getting sandwiches at the City Market and having dinner at Pomodori and Picaroons, where he could bring his canine companion Hubble.
The painter jokes he probably met half of the city.
“A lot of people went out of their way to help me accomplish my goal, whether taking me out grocery shopping or out for dinner or something just to kind of make my time there a little bit more fun and comfortable.”
From exploring King’s Square with Hubble to attending a lobster boil and visiting the reversing falls, Ryan’s Saint John experiences brought extra meaning to his mural.
“I’ll never forget watching the tide come in over six-hour period.”
