Tipsy Muse Opening Northside Location At Picaroons
FREDERICTON — Starting Friday morning, there will be more than beer brewing at Picaroons Roundhouse.
The Tipsy Muse, a local downtown coffee shop, is opening a new location at Picaroons. Mallory Kelly will be running the operation on the north side. They are planning to be open from Friday to Sunday offering a partial menu of mainly espresso drinks.
“Iced lattes, americanos, cappuccinos, and all that,” said Morgan Hornibrook, the manager at their southside location. “We just won’t be doing our drip coffee and our snacks and everything we do in-house.”
Last week, they received many excited messages after releasing a teaser post on their Instagram.
“I’m a north sider,” said Hornibrook. “So it’s exciting for me to think that we’ll be over there and in that space and to have good coffee be so accessible.”
Hornibrook said most of the feedback has been from people living in the area who are excited that they won’t have to go across the river for their morning cup of joe.
“Our hope is that there’s something for everyone that wants to go there,” said Hornibrook. “And being able to offer coffee expands that.”
They will join two other businesses already stationed at Picaroons, 540 Kitchen Bar and Grill and Queen Street Creamery.
“[Picaroons is] known for really helping people get started and really supporting other businesses,” said Hornibrook. “We felt so lucky to be able to be part of that and to be able to open up a little espresso bar over there.”
Hornibrook and Kelly said that everyone at Picaroons has been welcoming and accommodating.
“We’re super-duper grateful to be partnered with so many amazing businesses over there and just being able to contribute more to the community and create those community connections as well,” said Kelly.
“If Covid has taught us anything it’s that we need to lean on each other and be there for each other and support one another so I think this location speaks a lot to that,” said Hornibrook.
One of the Muse’s core values is to teach people what goes into making a good cup of coffee. Hornibrook says there is so much to know about coffee and they are still learning themselves.
“When we are learning things we want to share it with anyone who is interested,” said Hornibrook.
Last week they installed an espresso machine and made their first latte at the new location. Kelly said the process of opening while still running their downtown location has involved a lot of trial and error. She said that owners Rob Pinnock and Krista Touesnard have been supportive throughout the process.
“They care so much about the space that it’s impossible for any employee not to care about it,” said Hornibrook. “We all care about the city and the people here.”
