In February, the four owners signed a lease to open a 2700 square foot grocery bazaar next to the restaurant. But the timing could not have been worse, as the Covid-19 pandemic was right around the corner.
Los Toros will open in Chebucto Place, across from the Halifax ferry terminal, later this year. Owner Khalil Farah says the tapas bar will specialize in Spanish cuisine, with a special focus on paella.

Alice Clark had been a regular at Sydelle’s Fish and Chips since it opened a decade ago. She got hooked by the fresh-tasting fish and friendly service provided by the owner, David Nicholson.
David Nicholson was emotional on Wednesday morning as he toured the inside of his burned-out restaurant he believes was an act of arson. For 10 years, Sydelle’s was one of the most popular fish and chips restaurants in the Halifax area.
“They lit the dumpsters on fire, then they went down to the basement, which is a separate exit…and they lit napkins on fire on an old pile of insulation that was in the basement,” explained Nicholson.
