Remote Workers Can ‘Live For The Moment’ In New Brunswick
Over a year ago the Government of New Brunswick committed to a mandate of growing New Brunswick’s population to one million through a variety of different methods – including repatriation, retention, and attraction.
The Province and its economic agencies understand that by attracting new people to our province, we open new doors to incredible opportunities for economic, social, and cultural growth; opportunities that will make New Brunswick an even greater place to work, live and grow.
A year later, our world has changed. The global pandemic has changed the way we work and communicate. Many companies were able to shift to a work-from-home model without sacrificing productivity. Several of these companies have decided that this will now become the standard way of work.
This Work From Anywhere culture has opened up the possibility of these remote employees considering a move to New Brunswick where they can continue their careers while enjoying greater affordability, improved quality of life and a desirable work/life balance.
As a result of these large, urban-based companies offering a permanent work-from-home option to their employees, these people are discovering that not being tied to an office means they can say good-bye to expensive, dense urban areas and do their jobs from anywhere.
Enter the “Live For The Moment NB” Campaign. The eight-week-pilot, launched on March 10 to show remote workers in major urban centers the many benefits of living in New Brunswick, has generated over 1,000 inquiries in just two weeks. In addition, the effort has garnered organic coverage in those target markets. Media outlets such as CBC, CTV, Blog TO and Narcity have covered the story-generating added interest and online chatter.
The campaign is led by provincial economic development stakeholders including 3+ Economic Development Corporation, Ignite Fredericton, Envision Saint John, New Brunswick Business Council, Conseil Économique du Nouveau-Brunswick, and the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce, with support from GNB department PETL and Opportunities New Brunswick (ONB).
“We’re thrilled with the early response to the campaign,” says Susy Campos, CEO, 3+ Corporation. “Remote workers in key markets like Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa are reaching out to find out more about living in and working from New Brunswick.”
The pilot highlights key attributes of working remotely while living in NB including affordability, work/life balance, a great geographic location, and community connectedness you could only find in a smaller province like New Brunswick.
“The campaign is also being supported by over 150 New Brunswick ambassadors who have continued to share and promote the campaign,” says Conseil Économique du Nouveau-Brunswick CEO Gaetan Thomas. “We’re hoping even more New Brunswickers will sign up to be ambassadors to share the campaign with their networks in the target markets.”
The goal is to target 25-to-35-year-old professionals who are no longer bound to the large urban centres where they live because of their job. A key element of this campaign is offering each region of our province the ability to showcase the best they have to offer.
