Quispamsis is the Best Place to Live in Atlantic Canada, Says MoneySense
Quispamsis is the best place to live in Atlantic Canada, according to a national index developed by MoneySense.
Mark Brown refers to the suburban community outside Saint John as the most Ontario-like in his assessment of housing affordability and household incomes.
“Many of the cities in Atlantic Canada suffer from higher-than-average unemployment and lower incomes, but the vitals for Quispamsis more closely resemble those of a city you’d find in Ontario,” Brown writes.
“The median household income in this community of 20,000 tops $100,000. And that goes far in this part of the country. The average home price is just a touch over $300,000, which leaves residents with an enviable amount of cash to spare.”
It’s not all good news for Quispamsis and the rest of Atlantic Canada, however. Quispamsis is the top-ranked community in the region, but 105th in the country as a whole. The overall winner was Ottawa.
Moncton rated highly on one of the sub-indexes, best places to retire (13th). Fredericton was number 70 on the national list of best places for new Canadians to settle. Quispamsis was number 54 on the list of best places to raise kids.
Oddly, Saint John didn’t rate amongst best places in the country for good weather. People continue to undervalue its natural air conditioning.
