Moncton Location Of Piatto Pizzeria Will Close Its Doors On February 2
MONCTON – Piatto Pizzeria and Enoteca, a restaurant chain that offers wood-fired traditional Neapolitan pizza, will close its Moncton location on 759 Main St. on February 2, the company announced on its Facebook page Friday.
“We have enjoyed six great years working with the team, the community and many great partners and as our lease draws to an end we are going to explore other opportunities,” owner Kate Vallis said in an e-mail.
She says the building’s owners have been supportive during Piatto’s time there.
“Again, we want to thank our team, our customers and our partners, including our landlord for all the support we have enjoyed over the last six years.”
Piatto’s team of 12 in Moncton will be missed, Vallis said, adding that efforts to relocate them are ongoing.
“We are working with our team with the hopes of relocating as many of them as possible to other Piatto locations or to help them find work with our network of colleagues in Moncton,” she said in the e-mail. “We have been so lucky to have a great team and they all would be welcome back any time an opportunity arises.”
For now, there are no plans to re-open in Moncton. But Vallis says the company is “always looking for opportunities in Atlantic Canada and will consider each one as they arise as we look forward to growing the Piatto brand.”
Piatto Pizzeria and Enoteca is owned and operated by the St. John’s-based Vallis family. Since the first location opened there in 2010, the restaurant has added five more, including ones in Moncton, Charlottetown, Halifax, and Cambridge, Ont.
Besides pizza, Piatto’s menu also includes other Italian classics like pasta, gnocchi and arancini, as well as alcoholic beverages, desserts and coffee.
The restaurant’s patrons expressed their disappointment for the closure in the Facebook post comments but also offered support to the business owners and staff through the transition.
“Oh no oh no oh no, you, hands down, make the best pizza I’ve ever had! The salads, amazing. We go before any show at the Capitol and any other time I can squeeze it in. I will miss you very, very much,” read one.
“Sending lots of love and good vibes your way. Decisions like these are so much more than just a “business” decision. May this transition be gentle and kind to you all. You will be missed,” read another.
“We loved your location and food. We are very sorry to hear this news. Good luck and continued success with your other locations,” another patron said.
With the Moncton location closing, the restaurant encourages gift cardholders to use them before the closing date, or redeem them in any other Piatto locations.
