People, Planet, Profit And Malcolm Bricklin Intersect At Riverview Conference
RIVERVIEW – Leaders from the government, industry, academia, and youth will gather virtually this week to discuss sustainability and how to create a viable future for the next generations at the Sustaina-Palooza conference from April 28 to 30.
The conference is focused on finding the intersection between people, the planet, and profit and discuss emerging trends in environmental, social, corporate, and economic sustainability.
“We hope that Sustaina-Palooza encourages new conversations around the topic of sustainability while initiating partnerships between government, industry and academia, which do not traditionally intersect, to create smarter, more efficient communities, companies and educational systems that will position future generations for a better tomorrow,” wrote Tahlia Ferlatte, Economic Development Officer for the town of Riverview and one of the organizers of the event, in an email to Huddle.
Sustaina-Palooza highlights both local New Brunswick businesses along with national and international leaders to drive conversation, come up with new ideas, and to learn from each other to tackle issues within the sustainability sector.
“By using our municipal platform to create a space where people can exchange information, discover emerging trends, and discuss the importance of incorporating sustainable practices into the way we live and work, we’re hopefully able to evoke real-world change through dialogue and bilateral connections,” wrote Ferlatte.
On Thursday afternoon, a keynote discussion took place with Malcolm Bricklin, CEO and Founder of Visionary Vehicles and the creator of the Bricklin SV-1 safety sports car, which was manufactured in New Brunswick in the 1970s. Bricklin was joined by David Campbell, President of Jupia Consultants Inc. and former Chief Economist with the New Brunswick Jobs Board Secretariat. Campbell is also a host of Huddle Insights, and Huddle is a media sponsor of Sustaina-Palooza.
Other speakers featured throughout the conference include Heather Thompson, Executive Director of the University of Alberta’s School of Retail; Andrew McLaughlin, Vice President of Legal Affairs, General Counsel, and ESG Lead at Major Drilling Group International; and Vanessa Paesani, Principal Consultant and Executive Coach at The Folding Chair Group and the CEC at B4C Ventures.
There will also be national delegates from across the globe.
“We have a diverse schedule of presenters, both locally and globally, joining us to speak on a number of sustainability topics including the circular economy, renewable energy and impact investing,” wrote Ferlatte. “We will also be joined by six international governments to discuss their sustainability policies and areas of focus, including national delegates from the Consulate General of France, Denmark, and the Embassy of Finland.”
Tickets are still available for the virtual event through the Sustaina-Palooza website. The conference is presented through Zoom Virtual Meetings.
