New Brunswick’s SomaDetect Named Top ‘Disruptor’ At Ecosystem Impact Awards
HALIFAX– A New Brunswick startup was one of five Atlantic Canadian companies that took home awards last week at the inaugural Ecosystem Impact Awards in Halifax.
The event, a partnership between Volta and RBC, celebrated the efforts of community leaders and supporters who are helping nurture and grow the startup ecosystem in Atlantic Canada.
New Brunswick’s Soma Detect, a company that offers a sensor that measures dairy-quality from cows at every milking, received the Disruptor Award. This award is given to “an up-and-coming business in Atlantic Canada that has experienced significant entrepreneurial success over the past year.”
The other winners include Ignite Labs Inc. which received the Catalyst Award and Square Roots which received the Positive Impact Award. Venture Capital firm Build Ventures took home the Community Leader Award and Atlantic Canadian law firm McGinnis Cooper won the Corporate Supporter Award.
“The support and leadership within the startup community is one of the reasons why Atlantic Canadian companies are experiencing growth and success on national and international levels,” said Volta CEO Jesse Rodgers, in a release. “Organizations, like the ones recognized here today, are positively shaping our ecosystem, and are helping put Atlantic Canada on the map as a map for innovation and prosperity.”
There were more than 40 nominations, and the recipients were selected by a panel of judges, comprised of regional business leaders.
