New Brunswick’s Next Phase Of Reopening Begins Friday
FREDERICTON – Premier Blaine Higgs said Wednesday that the province will move to the next phase of reopening on Friday.
Friday will mark two weeks since the province moved to the orange phase. According to the government’s plan, the next phase – yellow – will allow gatherings of 50 people or fewer with physical distancing, and a family and friends bubble.
That phase will also include the reopening of gyms, yoga studios, swimming pools and saunas, and low-contact team sports among others.
Higgs reminded New Brunswickers that they must continue to do their share to protect the province.
“To continue to take the necessary steps and move into the next phase, we must continue to obey the directives of public health. We can’t do this alone,” he said.
More than 50 percent of the province’s early learning and child care facilities have reopened on Tuesday. Up to 80 percent are expected to reopen by June 1.
“The reopening of daycare centres is a key element in enabling people to return to work,” said Higgs. “New Brunswickers must be able to return to work if we are going to reopen our province.”
Although more businesses will be allowed to re-open, all unnecessary travel into New Brunswick remains prohibited, and peace officers are authorized to turn away non-essential visitors.
New Brunswick reported 14 consecutive days without any new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday. The number of confirmed cases remains at 120, out of which all have recovered, and 21,144 tests have been conducted.
