Moonshine Creek And Ganong Partner On A Chicken Bones Liqueur
A New Brunswick craft distillery has come up with a twist to a holiday tradition in the Maritimes.
Moonshine Creek, a distillery based in Waterville has released its Chicken Bones Liqueur, a limited-time beverage created in partnership with Ganong Bros.
Chicken Bones, a distinguished and unique family favourite and holiday tradition since 1885, is a hand-crafted spicy cinnamon-infused hard candy with a chocolate centre.
President and Head Distiller Jeremiah Clark says they got the idea last year.
“Last winter, when we were doing make your own moonshine workshops, we were showing how to try to infuse spirits by using things that might be available around your house after the holidays,” he says.
“One of the things was chicken bones. There is a way we could turn them into a syrup, and blend them with spirits, to make a liqueur. It was such a success, participants told us that we should really try to make it.”
Clark says they purchased almost 700 kilograms of chicken bones seconds, and that made around 2500 bottles of chicken bones liqueur.
“We’re trying our best to live up to the quality of the Ganong Brand. Hopefully, if they’re impressed with what we did, they’ll give us a licensing agreement,” he says. “Right now it is just a pilot to see how we’ll do, but it would be a big break for us.
Ganong CEO Bryana Ganong says the company welcomed the opportunity to partner with Moonshine Creek.
“When Moonshine Creek approached us with the idea, we were excited at the opportunity to partner with a New Brunswick family business and to uniquely re-purpose some of our product to create a premium liqueur for our adult Chicken Bones fans over the holiday season,” she says.
Moonshine Creek Distillery has only been in business for around 16 months.
Clark says Chicken Bones Liqueur will be in most NB Liquor stores by the end of the week.
