Moncton Airport Gets New Direct Daily Flights To Toronto
DIEPPE – Greater Moncton’s Roméo LeBlanc International Airport is getting its first Air Canada Rouge jet service to Toronto’s Pearson Airport, effective May 1.
Air Canada Rouge will provide direct service three times a day from Moncton to Toronto on its 136-seat A319 jet. That jet will be replaced with a larger 162-seat Airbus A320 to meet expected higher demand between June 20 and October 26.
“This is excellent news for tourism and business travelers,” said Bernard LeBlanc, President and CEO of the airport in a press release. “Not only will travel be faster between Greater Moncton and Toronto, there will also be increased daily capacity between the two airports. This certainly helps to strengthen YQM’s position as the leading airport in New Brunswick and is a recognition of the overall growing demand we are seeing.”
“Those three flights per day were chosen by AC and they were keeping in mind the connectivity times for people flying through Toronto to get to their final destinations,” Julie Pondant, the airport’s corporate communications specialist, told Huddle.
She said the new service not only will bring travelers from Greater Moncton to Toronto faster, but the planes are also “quite significantly bigger” than the current Bombardier Dash Q400, which has 78 seats.
“What led to it is really a business decision on Air Canada’s behalf. But it’s something that we’ve been pursuing for sometime,” Pondant said. “Allowing larger aircraft will open the door for us to have more wishlists of destinations with Air Canada.”
The Caribbean is an example of a potential destination that could be added with the availability of larger aircraft, she said.
