Mill Town Roasters Is Fredericton’s Next Generation Café
FREDERICTON – Mill Town Roasters is the latest café to open in downtown Fredericton, having opened its doors on King Street late last week.
“It has been a whirlwind but we were very pleased with the turnout on the weekend,” said operations manager Katie Martens.
“The primary focus is always going to be the coffee for us, but we are going to have a little bit of everything. We do all homemade baked goods and fresh sandwiches from Ringo’s and we’re going to have fresh fruit smoothies, juice and salads.”
“We make sure that you can both get quality food, along with quality coffee; you don’t have to choose between the two,” said Martens.
Mill Town Roasters is owned by Melodie and Carl Martens, Katie’s parents, who also own the Coffee Mill and Ringo’s Bar and Grill in Fredericton, which opened respectively in 1971 and 1993.
“I suppose I’m like the third generation [of business people], a hope to carry on the footsteps of my parents and keep the dream alive.”
While Mertens is partial to the cafe’s “Rise and Grind,” freshly pressed orange juice mixed with an espresso shot on top, “It’s fun to see how different, caffeine [drinks] speak to people and what their go-to coffee is on a day to day basis.”
