McAllister Place Redeveloping Old Sears Space For Multiple Retailers
SAINT JOHN – Managers of Saint John’s main shopping mall say they are working on a new addition that will replace the large vacancy Sears left behind when it closed last year.
McAllister Place marketing manager Tanya McCluskey-Kelly told Huddle via email that the mall is already in the early stages of redevelopment. She said an exact opening date and specific retailers moving into the new development can’t be confirmed as of yet, but construction will be phased over approximately 12 to 24 months with new retailer’s opening by 2021.
“This redevelopment will bring new opportunities for Saint John’s premier shopping destination,” said McCluskey-Kelly. “The back side of the former Sears space is currently being torn down. The rebuild will offer approximately 100,000 [square feet] of new construction accommodating a number of large-format retailers. The exterior will consist of a modern and innovative design.”
In addition to the retail space, the new development will include a new common area that will give interior access to the new stores.
“When completed, the new development will offer our customers exceptional shopping choices, a premier service commitment and an enhanced level of comfort for the entire family,” said McCluskey-Kelly.
