Irving Oil to Build New Headquarters in Saint John
SAINT JOHN–In a letter to the community released this afternoon, Irving Oil announced plans to build a new company headquarters in Uptown Saint John on the site of the parking lot next to the Imperial Theatre. That site is currently used for parking by Irving Oil employees.
The letter, signed by Arthur Irving and other members of the company’s senior leadership team, says the proposed new headquarters is “a tangible example of our commitment to our community in Saint John and the Province of New Brunswick.”
“We have always been proud to call Saint John home and to have Irving Oil’s home office in our city.”
The new home office will consolidate Irving Oil’s Saint John employees who are currently scattered throughout several buildings in the city, although the new building will not house employees working with the Irving Oil refinery or lubricants plant.
“We will provide a working environment specifically designed to help move the company forward – one that will foster productivity, collaboration and a one-team approach,” said Irving Oil in its letter.
Irving Oil has already begun working with Toronto-based B+H Architects on a feasibility study. The company hopes to begin construction in the spring of 2016.
In 2010, Irving Oil cancelled plans to build a $30 million headquarters on Saint John’s Long Wharf in the face of a global economic downturn.
