Fredericton Startup Awarded $25,000 from Volta Cohort
FREDERICTON – New Brunswick startup RIDDL was named as one of the five winners of Volta’s semi-annual pitch competition, Cohort.
“Injecting early-stage startups with a small investment, and pairing it with mentorship and support early on has provided a tremendous boost to our regional ecosystem by helping companies get to a venture path more quickly,” said Meghann Coleman, director of Strategic Projects at Volta, in a news release.
Volta, established in 2013, is one of Canada’s largest innovation hubs and fifty-one full-time employees have been hired through Cohort companies.
Based in Fredericton, RIDDL provides proprietary data for investors to allow them to make better investment decisions. The other four companies selected to join the Volta Cohort are Bloxo Inc., Bursity Inc., Electric Owl Solutions Ltd., and Sparrow Acoustics, all of which are based in Halifax.
The five companies were selected at a pitch event in Halifax on November 20. Each startup will receive a $25,000 investment from a microfund co-founded by Volta, BDC Capital, Innovacorp and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), as well as provided resources to help grow their business and be mentored by experienced entrepreneurs.
“The talent, passion and diversity of the ideas displayed were quite impressive, and we look forward to helping the founders and their teams as they continue to grow,” said Coleman.
