Fredericton named as one of the top American Cities of the Future
Fredericton – Fredericton is being hailed as one top North American cities of the future.
The city won three awards of Top 10 rankings in fDi Magazine’s American Cities of the Future for 2015/16.
Fredericton ranked 7th overall in the Top 10 Micro American Cities of the Future, with micro cities defined as having a population of less than 100,000. It also placed 3rd in the category of Human Capital and Lifestyle behind Greenville, NC and Plattsburgh, NY and 4th in Business Friendliness behind Greenville, SC, Plattsburgh, NY and Sante Fe Springs, CA.
“I’m thrilled to see Fredericton being recognized on the North and South American stage,” said the city’s Mayor Brad Woodside. “It’s a testimonial that all our hard work and infrastructural investments are paying off!”
Fredericton was the only New Brunswick city named in the rankings. It was also the only city in Atlantic Canada to be named besides Halifax, which placed 9th in a mid-sized city ranking.
The awards were accepted Monday evening by Ignite Fredericton’s Economic Development and Marketing Specialist Laurie Guthrie in Anchorage, AK, USA.
“For the size of our city, Fredericton has a supportive business community, talent pool and lifestyle advantage that compares to few others in North America or the world,” Guthrie said. “Our job at Ignite Fredericton is to sell the city as the world-class business option it is, and we’ve recently hired a new Investment Attraction Specialist to implement our strategy, so we’re really looking forward to what the future holds.”
