Corey Craig Group Plans To Build IHOP On Mountain Road Near Casino
MONCTON – IHOP’s parent company, Dine Brands Global, agreed in principle with Moncton’s Corey Craig Group to open five restaurants in Atlantic Canada. The first one will open on Mountain Road in Moncton in the fourth quarter of this year.
“We are looking forward to expanding our presence in Canada, which has always been an important market for IHOP, both financially and sentimentally,” William Urrego, Regional VP and General Manager of Dine Brands Global, said in a release.
“With this agreement, we are fulfilling a major goal for our development in Canada,” Dan Lecocq, Executive Director, International Development, Dine Brands Global, said in the release. “We are actively seeking similarly qualified franchisees to bring the brand to the Greater Toronto Area and Quebec which represent great opportunities for us.”
The five IHOP restaurants will be built over the next six years in New Brunswick, P.E.I., Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Corey Craig Group have been a franchisee of Tim Horton’s and Wendy’s for more than a decade. It’s also building a 120-room Hyatt Hotel next to the Avenir Centre in Downtown Moncton.
Documents filed with the City of Moncton’s Planning Advisory Committee shows Dine Brands plans to locate the 4,585-square-foot Moncton IHOP on the corner of Mountain Road and Casino drive.
“IHOP truly became an International House of Pancakes in 1969 when the first restaurant outside of the U.S. opened in New Westminster, B.C. and over the next five decades, we were privileged to bring the IHOP experience to new cities and provinces in Canada,” Steve Joyce, President, International and CEO of Dine Brands Executive Officer, said in the release.
“What better way to mark our 50th anniversary in this great country than by being able to say we are now in Canada from sea to shining sea?”
IHOP, or the International House of Pancakes, opened its first location in 1958 in Southern California.
The well-known chain serves more than 14 types of pancakes and various breakfast, lunch and dinner items like burgers, sandwiches, steaks and omelettes, among others.
As of 2016, there are 1,695 IHOP locations in the U.S., Canada, Bahrain, the U.A.E., Guam, Guatemala, Kuwait, Mexico, Panama, The Philippines, Puerto Rico, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The first restaurant opened over 60 years ago in Toluca Lake, Los Angeles.
Dine Brands Global also owns the Applebee’s chain.
