Construction On ‘The Telegraph’ Building Set To Begin
SAINT JOHN – The uptown’s newest development will soon begin to take shape with the construction of The Telegraph building, located at the corner of Canterbury and Grannan streets, slated to begin over the next few weeks.
The mixed-use building will have six floors, including commercial space on the ground floor, and 32 residential units.
Jeff Cyr, director of strategic projects with Develop Saint John, says the development hits a number of goals the city has set for itself.
“It’s going to be more businesses to draw people into the urban core, and it adds to the street space. It’s high-quality, heritage design,” Cyr said.
Cyr says the residential and commercial spaces will each help grow the city’s tax base.
Over the next few weeks, Develop Saint John will be in touch with residents about upcoming construction activity as the project ramps up.

“We’re anticipating that in May some of the construction activity will begin,” Cyr said.
Cyr says minimal demolition work has taken place already at the site, which is currently home to a parking garage.
They’ve also removed the “Famous Folks” murals, which will be re-installed on the back wall of the new “Union Station” condo and commercial development on Union Street.
