Chess Piece Cafe Will Provide Food For Fredericton Airport’s New Terminal
FREDERICTON – Chess Piece Patisserie & Café, which has two location in downtown Fredericton, will soon be serving desserts, coffee and made-from-scratch lunch menu at the airport too.
The cafe will be the food service provider in the Fredericton International Airport’s (YFC) new, expanded terminal when it opens in 2021. Its airport location will also feature quick-serve and family-friendly items for travellers on the go, plus a gift shop selling items made by local artisans.
“We’re excited and proud to launch our YFC location, and we look forward to bringing our unique products to local travellers and visitors,” said Chess Piece co-owner Patti Hollenberg in a release.
“Chess Piece is a great local company with a reputation for excellence, and we look forward to welcoming Patti and her team to the YFC family,” says Johanne Gallant, president and CEO of the Fredericton International Airport Authority, in the release.
Gallant added she also thanks the owners and employees of The Chef Group, which have provided food service at the airport for years and will continue to do so until the construction project is completed.
The new terminal is expected to be completed in the spring of 2021. There will be food service inside the departures lounge for travellers waiting to board, and there will be a cafe in the arrivals area that will be accessible to travellers and the public.
Construction for the terminal started in 2019 under a two-year, $32-million renovation plan. It will expand the terminal by 50 percent. The project will create 572 full-time equivalent jobs in addition to the 662 such jobs already supported by the airport’s ongoing operation annually.
