Cannabis NB Wins National Award For Talent Development
Cannabis NB is receiving accolades outside the province even as it faces heavy criticism at home for operating losses and staff layoffs over the last several months.
The crown corporation has received the national Excellence in Retailing Award for Talent Development by the Retail Council of Canada.
The awards are held every year by the Retail Council recognize the year’s most innovative and creative retailers in a variety of categories. Cannabis NB was nominated in two categories; In-Store Experience & Design and Talent Development.

The Talent Development recognizes a retailer with a successful talent development program that focusses on skills development, performance improvement, employee engagement, improved workplace culture, operations, store support, logistics, and individuals and teams.
“Not only are very we proud to have won in the Talent Development Category amongst large national retailer finalists like Canadian Tire, Sephora and Home Depot, we were proud to be nominated in both categories,” said Lara Wood, general manager of Cannabis NB, in a release. “It is a testament to the experience that our Guides provide in our stores every day in order to deliver a one on one personalized experience, educate customers and raise public awareness.”
This news comes after Cannabis NB has face backlash back in April for posting a loss of $4.6 million for the quarter, down from a loss of $7.1 million the quarter before. It also faced criticism back in January for laying off 60 retail workers.
