Burrito Jax Hopes To Reopen Moncton Restaurants
MONCTON – Burrito Jax has closed its two stores in Moncton, but the chain’s co-founder Gordon Delano said he plans to reopen them.
“The businesses are still there. Obviously, the doors are closed. But we’re working as quickly as we can to reopen the stores,” he said in an interview with Huddle.
The owner of the Moncton franchises has stepped back from the business for personal reasons, Delano said. But he’s seeing interest from others to take over.
“We had some phone calls from people who wanted to see if they could buy the franchises,” he said. “So we’re working with some of those individuals right now as quickly as we can to reopen. At this stage, we wouldn’t be able to publicly make an announcement until we finalize the transaction.”
In June 2016, Burrito Jax announced a three-store deal in Moncton. The location on 827 Main Street opened in July last year. A sign on the store window says the space is open for lease.
Burrito Jax also has a store on 1380 Mountain Road. A sign on the door of the Mountain Road location says the shop is closed temporarily. Building manager Matt Hardy said in a phone call with Huddle that he cannot comment on the matter.
Delano said he hopes Burrito Jax will reopen at the same two locations.
“That is our intention,” he said.
The planned third store has not been opened, but Delano said he’s received interest for other stores in New Brunswick.
“We have inquiries from other parts of the province that we’re working with people [for],” he said.
Burrito Jax started as a takeout-only restaurant in Halifax in 2009. It currently has eight other locations in Atlantic Canada, including one in Fredericton, the company’s website says.
The restaurant chain serves made-to-order burritos, quesadillas and burrito bowls using fresh local and sustainable ingredients.
