Acadia Broadcasting To Acquire Two Halifax Stations
HALIFAX – The Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission has approved the purchase agreement between Acadia Broadcasting Limited and Evanov Communications Inc. for two of Evanov’s Halifax-based radio stations.
The CRTC announced its decision on the approval of the sale on Monday.
Chris Pearson, the president of Acadia Broadcasting Limited said he was happy to get the confirmation on the decision from the CRTC on the authority to acquire both stations, a decision that increases Acadia’s presence in Nova Scotia where the company currently owns CKBW and CJHK in Bridgewater, CJLS in Yarmouth and CIGO in Port Hawkesbury.
“We are excited to bring our quality approach to local programming to Halifax and the surrounding area. We thank Evanov Communications for providing us with the opportunity to serve the 10th-largest radio market in the country,” said Pearson in a release.
Evanov Communications is the parent company of HFX Broadcasting. CKHZ-FM first went on air in August 2006 after Evanov won a competitive process for a new radio license in the Halifax area from the CRTC.
CKHY-FM started broadcasting later in October 2010, becoming HFX Broadcasting’s second Halifax-based station.
In a statement Monday, Paul Evanov, the president and CEO of Evanov Communications said his company was delighted with the approval of this transaction between two independent broadcasters.
“It will result in Acadia having a larger footprint and role in the local Halifax area while allowing our company to deploy resources into growing our business in other markets. It’s a win-win for our listeners and our system,” said Evanov.
Acadia also owns four stations in New Brunswick, CHWV and CHSJ in Saint John, CHTD in St. Stephen and CKNI in Moncton.
The company also owns seven stations in Ontario, CJRL in Kenora, CKDR in Dryden, CKDR-2 in Sioux Lookout, CKDR-5 in Red Lake, CFOB in Fort Frances, and CJUK and CKTG in Thunder Bay.
Huddle Today Limited and Acadia Broadcasting Limited are each part of the Ocean Capital Group.
