Together
I first heard Richard Sennett in a CBC Ideas podcast in 2007 and I’ve been evangelical ever since.
His 2012 book Together is about cooperation as a skill that is less about good nature, and more about hard work. One thing I especially appreciate about this book is that it explores the value in and the practice behind agreeing to disagree. It explores how conflict can be a good, and even necessary part of living in the same society.
Sennett’s books aren’t always light reading, but they are inspiring — reading his work feels like a form of nourishment.
Incidentally, Sennett’s got a beautiful speaking voice.
